Western States Endurance Race

I'm off to the Western States Endurance Race this weekend. This is a 100 mile race over the Sierra Nevada Mountains between Squaw Valley, California and Auburn.

It's hard to believe that some people enjoy running 100 miles over very difficult terrain. The course involves 17,000 feet of climbing and 23,000 of descent. So in addition to the long distance, it's also hilly - especially in the first 60 miles.

My run club Stevens Creek Striders has been providing the aid station at mile 43 for more that 25 years. The station is in the middle of no-where at a ghost mining village of 'Last Chance'.

So we'll travel there today and have a few songs around the campfire this evening.  The aid stations busy all day on Saturday.  We're expecting our first runner about 11 o'clock and we close at 5.15.  After we close, we'll pack up and go to Auburn to see the finish.  The first runner home is expected about 9.30 and they'll be coming in all night Saturday.  The race finishes at 11am on Sunday morning.

Demonstration of Blogger to Ali

This is a wee demo of blogger to Ali and she's really amazed at how great this isn't.

We were at the Miwok 100k Endurance event last weekend and had a really nice time. I was volunteering and Ali was crewing. And I paced Penny home. Everybody was tired, however it was a very nice day out.

This photo was taken at the San Juan Bautista 10 mile run in Feb 2004. I think it was posted here from Helo which got it from Picassa or something. It's kind of amazing that all this works. Tim Berners Lee is a genius for thinking of the architecture of HTTP and HTML. It's an amazing and flexible design.
